Wandering Fever
Symbolising adventure storytelling

Wandering Fever is a still and motion-picture company founded by award-winning South African and old friend, Dean Leslie. Based in Cape Town, Dean has filmed on expeditions and assignments across all seven continents, and established the online short film series Salomon TV.

Dean needed a full identity and a defining symbol to seamlessly integrate into his films and imagery, which encapsulated his storytelling – a mark which could eventually stand on its own. In addition, a new online home which better positioned him and his team was next, cataloging their incredible body of work.

THE BRAND

A love for the wild. Inspiration for the identity came from obvious sources for both of us: adventure and the outdoors, the heart of his storytelling. Distilled further, the two main elements we arrived at were Land and Sea.

THE WEBSITE

Reflecting this core theme, subtle map markings and contour lines were used in the website layouts whilst retaining a minimalist look, allowing the inspiring films and images to shine. My brother Adam handled the technical build of the site, ensuring Dean has full control over curating the company’s work.

THE PROCESS

I created many early iterations and sketches of the main logo in the beginning, riffing off way signs, map elements and features. Hand-created typefaces and roughed edges adding to a feel of the outdoors and adventure.
